A Brief Overview:
We are based in Peterborough, ON., and are currently in the process of expanding to both Kingston and Belleville, ON!
The purpose of our sorority is to provide an experience that can last a lifetime, that reinforces academics, community service, community involvement, and sisterhood.
We accomplish everything we set out to do by emphasizing healthy values and morals, such as: teamwork, honesty, integrity, loyalty, generosity, responsibility, and reflection. Each month our girls participate in a minimum of 3 social functions, though many of our sisters exceed all expectations and continue to surprise their sisters as well as the communities they are involved in.
We also participate and host "for fun" events, such as picnics, beach days, BBQs, road trips, bowling, skating, dance lessons, jello-wrestling, fun fairs, formals, etc. Currently, the ladies here in Peterborough, directed by Miss Cassie Bullard, are preparing for our first Cotillion (see discussions for further postings/updates/details). As a way to welcome
new initiates into our sorority and Greek life in general we have decided to take the American tradition of the debutante ball (i.e. cotillion) and apply it in a more modern and fitting manner to our sisters. In accordance with cotillion, all of our ladies and their escorts are given the option of ball room lessons at no additional charge, as well as etiquette lessons mentioned below.
Class, grace, elegance and etiquette are fields of interest to our sorority. We feel that it is important that our girls are educated and act accordingly within the community. We are able to offer lessons to our ladies to ensure that they are informed and able to meet our standards of excellence at the appropriate times.
In summation to the topic of Cotillion: it is basically a welcoming affair where our new sisters celebrate their crossover as a class into the Sorority in a formal context, while displaying the grace and elegance of proper social behavior. Another benefit of our strong sisters are qualified professional sisters who offer free lessons in areas such as skating, snowboarding, skiing (water, x-country, and alpine), piano, flute, musical theory, etc.
Our sorority is mainly comprised of students, however, we also take in other interested women in the community who are willing to dedicate themselves and abide by our standards of excellence and mission statement.
Our students are expected to meet additional standards concerning the issue of grade point averages, and participation within the school. We strive to maintain excellence not only for ourselves but for all around us, and in order to accomplish this we must be willing to go that extra mile. Our sisters are strongly encouraged to join student councils, participate in intramural and varsity sporting events, school clubs/groups, student pub nights, etc. to promote the schools and encourage others to get the most out of their college/university experience.
In Theta Omicron Xi, we also pride ourselves on our inventive and unique ideas concerning fund-raising. Whether the funds are going towards a charity, or event we always put great care into them. In order to keep things interesting many of our ladies have devised funding ideas that produce great results.
It is important to us to keep a good reputation in the community, one to which other organizations and groups can always seek assistance from. However, we also have our own special events where the girls are allowed to "let their hair down" and relax without worrying about etiquette and grace. These events are often where the more physically strong and mentally determined display their forte. Events to this nature include scrimmage rugby, football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, lacrosse, or hockey games. Functions organized by our ladies which include sports-based events also include, tug-of-wars, and jello-wrestling. We do not force any sister to contribute or participate against their will, as we STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH HAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
